That's a very high horse your sitting on lollygaggle, I am not saying that driving at twice the speed limit is anything other than stupid and dangerous. However the method used to enforce a law must not present a greater risk to the public than not enforcing it. Poor placement of speed traps can cause accidents when? people who are breaking the law try to slow down. If this is happening then the risk caused by speeding is even higher. That's my problem with the speed trap here.

Why are we told it is reckless and dangerous to do 137mph but not dangerous for the police to cause accidents while stopping people doing 137mph. Hi, you are clearly not aware of the funding arrangements, for since 2007, speed enforcement has cost more to keep running than it generated. The term 'cash cow' has? been penned by those who have no clue how this works. Whenever you see figures quoted for revenue generated, you never seen the running costs that cancel out the revenue. Static camera numbers have dropped greatly in number because they are too expensive to run.

I am so sorry that Buttersco60 feels this way, We have just had a wonderful week. (granted we chose the less touristy spots to moor) but we saw wildlife and were not too bothered by any unruly behaviour. The rudest people were those who had? hired large boats and were not of the lager fraternity. The rudest were the large family types that decided to move our small boat when we left it unattended and the Hooray type familes who decided its ok to bully your way into a spot where there is no room.

A guy I work with was gone this weekend and he had a friend checking in on his dog. The friend came by after the storm went through to discover that his basement was completely (floor to ceiling) full of water! The massive amount of hail stones first caused his basement window to break and the street drains in his neighborhood backed up from all the hail. After they got all the water out they had to scoop out about 18 inches of mud. It was a new house they just moved into? not too? long ago.

I know many people here? in town who had water in their basement's yesterday. Our tiling and sump system in our basement has done it's job perfectly, THANK YOU! The flooding is something I have seen enough of over the recent years. It was this crazy amount of hail that took the cake for me! Everyone I have talked to, even those more than twice my age have never seen anything like this around here before.

I grew up on the Peninsula and moved to Downtown Norfolk later in? life for a few months, and I do have to say it's a great place to walk around at night as long as you stick to the Waterside & Granby St area. The only problem was how dead it could be most of the time. Even on a Friday night most of the bars and restaurants weren't even half-full. There was this nice little Irish pub on Granby but I can't remember what it was called. Oh well. I like the Wash DC area much better anyway. :)

Norfolk is a lovely place to live, in my opinion. It's my hometown, and I suppose every person feels their hometown is the "best", but it truly is a beautiful community.? If you ever go, check out downtown, Chrysler Hall, Harrison Opera House, Doumar's on Monticello Avenue, Chrysler Museum, Norfolk Botanical Garden...it's a great town!

You said it----and as you said, one can hardly put one's finger on why his music swells one's heart and spirit--but it does--all without fortes and big brass sound (though VW can do this as well). I think listeners are drawn to the peacful sound of his compositions--and? how the world really should be.

Two films were made about RVW in? 2008, the 50th anniversary of his death, Tony Palmer's film (available on DVD) was called "O Thou Transcendent" - a quotation from the Walt Whitman poems that RVW set to music in "A Sea Symphony". John Bridcut made film called "The Passions of Vaughan Williams" which focused on the way the composer's personal life influenced his music. Both are excellent.

I've always felt a connection with his music. Especially his less well known works. I'm not a musician or composer but one can really get a sense of his moods, outlook, call? it what you will - but one thing's for sure - he was a complicated man. If you've not already seen it I recommend the BBC4 documentary that was about him shown few years ago. Can't recall the title though. Agreed - the Boult version seems to have the edge. Tribute to Boult's interpretation.
